It’s spring! Let’s bloom.
Spring is not straightforward. It’s an ever-changing, living, and often laughing presence that rains on us, blooms for us, and whips us up with its indecisive 20-degree temperature changes within a single day.
You are nature. You too can be moody … especially in spring.
Perhaps you awake feeling you could conquer the world, then you’re not sure about your life purpose, and finally you’re wanting to hide away and eat junk, all in one day Phew!
This is natural. It is the heaviness that is winter’s nourishing rest, and the fieriness that is summer’s celebration colliding into an ever-changing presence that is you, that is me, that is the birds singing and the sun warming us, and the rain sprouting all that is green and good on this earth.
Seven tips for mastering Spring’s moodiness
#1 Fall in love
Spring is a giddy time of fluttering fun. Take advantage of this! Spring’s bursting (and moody) presence invites us to be present and to see ourselves. This is the beginning of true love. Allow emotions to be and to pass, and try not to merge and become them. We suffer from conflict and confusion when we ignore our needs and desires. Being with ourselves takes love, trust, and a little bit of pixie dust!
#2 Be a baby
Birthing energy is EVERYWHERE in spring: fluffy white lambs and pink tulip buds and blue robin eggs. It’s creative energy. You can ride this rainbow of limitless possibilities if you take care of YOU—then you have CAPACITY for inspiration and creativity. I don’t mean, go get a massage and then work yourself like a Morgan horse… girl, please.
#3 Freshen up
Shed EVERYTHING that feels heavy. (Within reason, please no throwing out your screaming toddler—get supports and if you do #1 and #2, you’ll have more capacity for her feelings.) Clean your closets, your fridge, your mucky habits. Do a nourishing mono-diet for a few days. Eat lots of liver loving greens, just like the deer emerging from the snow-laden forest to munch on bitter dandelions.
#4 Spice it up
Dance party time. Activate muscles and mind as if the sun is shining from the every cell of your body. Get your system moving with spicier foods, activating breaths, and some fun music. Swap out heavy and gooey meals for clean and refreshing ones like exchanging oatmeal for toast, or walnuts for almonds.
#5 Don’t be too slutty
Be selective. As your heart begins to sing and dance at the arousing invitation of warm and sparkling early-morning sunshine, you may want to say “yes” to EVERYTHING. Good for you! Yes is fun. Just be mindful that every time we say “yes,” we are also saying “no” to whatever it is we’re exchanging for the yes. Align your actions with your heart and soul and not only with the “shoulds" that surroung you”.
#6 Have fun
You alone have a unique potential to grow and create like no other human here on Earth. Spring is your time to plant those seeds, and revel in the unique magic of your creations. It’s ok if we can’t see the end game—that’s the point. You can nurture your projects as they grow, with curiosity and la bit of gentle humor.
#7 Connect
Connecting to something greater than yourself is essential for creation. A simple walk in the woods puts you in touch with a force of wisdom and life that allows you to feel held and also a part of something more magical than emails and instagram scrolls. You don’t have all the answers, and you don’t need them. The very definition of inspiration is “to breathe into,” to enliven yourself with breath… to commune with source.
Think of the blossom that must push through dark, heavy soil to reach sunlight. You are the blossom—trust your journey. Happy blossom trails!
Bonus: Spring “helpers”
Ginger tea - gets the fire going in your body. As the sun warms the earth, you want to be warming through all the muck of winter and ginger stokes that flame.
Dandelion leaf & burdock root: eat it, drink it, and be merry. Your liver will LOVE you if you give it some bitter greens to help it renew and refresh itself for all the fun you inevitable have in store this summer.
